A Quick Guide to Falcon Playhouse Auditions
Here's more information about our audition process. Click the links for more information and feel free to reach out to our Student Board with any questions you may have!
Sign-ups:
Lunchtime on the day of your audition, head to the theatre. In the backstage hallway, a sign-up sheet will be posted up against a bulletin board.
What to Prepare:
Prepare a monologue from a published play or musical that matches the style of the show (ex., a contemporary show = a contemporary monologue). Your monologue should be about 1-1.5 minutes long.
If you are auditioning for a musical, prepare a song that matches the style of the show and the character (ex., a contemporary show = a contemporary song). Your song should be 32 bars long. You can choose whether to perform your song or monologue first.
How to Start an Audition:
Auditions begin inside the theater. You will be placed in a waiting room with other actors. Someone will call your name and bring you into the audition room -- either the Black Box or the main theater (also called "the house".) When you step into the audition room, slate yourself in front of the directors. Make sure to take a breath before your performance to calm your nerves and get into character. Most importantly: HAVE FUN!
How to Slate:
What your slate must include:
-
Your Full Name
-
Your grade or age
-
Monologue name and show
-
Song name and show/author (only required for musical auditions)
Example:
-
“Hello, my name is Jane Doe. I am in __th grade, and I will be performing [monologue name] from [show name] and i will be singing for you [song name] from [show name].”
How to End an Audition:
After you finish your monologue/song, take a breath to get out of character and thank the artistic team for their consideration. Once you leave the Audition room, keep calm and await the callback list.
Generally, Falcon Playhouse does not require a headshot or resume, though some other theater companies may. The same is true of self tapes.
